UK legend
Nick Hook has been a DJ and producer since the early days of the acid house revolution. He started producing in 1990 and has since then made over 110 tracks for many of the UK's most legendary house music labels including FFRR, Whoop!, Distinctive, Loaded, Renaissance and Phonetic. Nick is also in-house producer, A&R man and co-owner of Brighton based label Jeepers! Music.
Let's dig a little deeper for a history lesson... In the Spring of 1991, Nick launched his first club in London called Up, which later became the legendary Loosen Up. While Nick and his partner Morgan King continued to produce tracks under various guises, the club went from strength to strength. Between 1992 and 1994, it was one of London’s most influential clubs. Many DJs including Sasha, John Digweed, Darren Emerson, Orde Mikele (Slam), Billy Nasty, Paul Daly (Leftfield) and Tall Paul guested at Loosen Up during those years. But the club owed its success to Nick’s legendary ‘graveyard shift’ sets, which left clubbers on a high. The success of Loosen Up saw Nick’s DJ career take off, and he went on to play guest spots at many of the UK's top clubs of the 1990s, including the Ministry Of Sound, The Drum Club, Slam, and Club UK, as well as many venues across Europe and Ireland. Nick started his solo production career in 1994 and was signed to the new progressive label Whoop Records.
In 1995 Loosen Up joined forces with Whoop to form a new weekly progressive house night called Whoop It Up and featured the cream of the scene including Seb Fontaine, Dave Seaman, Timo Maas, Sasha, Nick Warren, Slacker and John Digweed. Nick was also the man behind Off The Hook Records and behind nights like Loose and Tech-Noir. If you know your music history well, you'll remember his progressive classic "First Life - Be One Of Us" from 1994 as well as "Enhanced" (featuring vocals from the late great Bill Hicks) on the mighty Distinctive to mention just a few of his key releases that has been part of shaping the club scene we know today. Over the years Nick has DJ'd extensively all over the UK and abroad but due to coincidences, this is his first ever visit to Denmark and we can't wait to have him over.
